1Scope
This policy applies to the nationally recognised short courses delivered by Skyline International College (SIC), the trading name of MG Australia Group Pty Ltd, RTO 45233:
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
- CHCPRT025 Identify and report children and young people at risk
Each course is a single unit of competency. It does not apply to IT and Technology programs offered by our partner SkillLaunch, which are covered by SkillLaunch's own terms.
2Enrolment and eligibility
You can enrol online by choosing your course and preferred weekdays and giving us your contact details. Before we accept your enrolment, we confirm a place in a class and check that the course suits you.
To take part, you need:
- to be 18 years or older
- enough English language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills to complete the online theory and assessment. We expect about an intermediate level of English. If you are unsure, talk to us and we will help you decide.
- a device with internet access for the online theory
- for first aid courses, to be able to kneel on the floor and give two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin.
After we confirm your place, we send you a short registration link to collect the information we need for your student record and government reporting. You need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before we can issue your Statement of Attainment, unless an exemption applies. We can help you create one. Bring photo ID to your class.
Student visa holders are welcome to enrol. Sessions are held every week on weekdays at our Burwood campus.
3Fees and payment
| Course | Fee per person |
|---|---|
| HLTAID011 Provide First Aid | $95 |
| HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting | $125 |
| CHCPRT025 Identify and report children and young people at risk | $100 |
The fee includes the online theory, the face-to-face class, learning resources, assessment, one reassessment and an electronic Statement of Attainment. There are no other compulsory fees.
You pay after we confirm your place. We email you payment instructions with your confirmation, and the full fee must be paid before your class unless SIC has agreed to another arrangement in writing. Employers paying for staff are invoiced.
Only pay to the bank account shown in your confirmation email from SIC. We will never ask you to change bank details by phone, text or social media. If you are unsure, call 1300 807 383 before paying.
4Cancellations, transfers and refunds
| Situation | Outcome |
|---|---|
| You cancel by 5 pm, 2 business days before your class | Full refund, or transfer to another session at no cost |
| You cancel after that time, or do not attend | No refund. You may transfer once to a session within 3 months at no cost |
| SIC cancels or reschedules your class | Your choice of a full refund or a transfer to another session |
For example, for a Monday class, cancel by 5 pm on the Thursday before. Request a cancellation or transfer by emailing shortcourses@sic.edu.au. Refunds are paid to the account the fee came from within 10 business days of approval.
Nothing in this policy removes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
5Assessment and certificates
- Assessment includes online knowledge questions and practical tasks in class. Attendance alone does not lead to a certificate.
- If you are assessed as not yet competent, one reassessment within 30 days is included in your fee. We will tell you before any further reassessment if a fee applies.
- We aim to issue your Statement of Attainment within 5 business days of your results being finalised, and always within 30 calendar days, provided your USI is verified and your fee is paid.
- Your Statement of Attainment is a permanent record. Employers and regulators decide how recent your training must be.
6Student support
Tell us when you enrol, or any time before your class, if you need support with language, literacy, a disability or a medical condition. We can make reasonable adjustments to how training and assessment are delivered, but every student must still meet the assessment requirements of the unit.
Students must follow trainer instructions and workplace health and safety rules during practical sessions.
7Complaints and appeals
Making a complaint
- Talk to your trainer or our short courses team first. Many issues can be resolved quickly.
- If that does not resolve it, email a written complaint to shortcourses@sic.edu.au, marked "Complaint".
- We acknowledge your complaint within 2 business days.
- We aim to give you a written outcome, with reasons, within 20 business days. If we need longer, we will tell you why and update you at least every 10 business days until it is resolved.
Appealing a decision
You can appeal an assessment decision, or any other decision that affects you (for example, about your enrolment or a refund), in writing within 20 business days of receiving it. A person who was not involved in the original decision reviews it, and you receive a written outcome with reasons.
If you are not satisfied
You can ask for a review by an independent person outside SIC, at no cost to you. You can also contact:
- National Training Complaints Hotline: 13 38 73
- NSW Fair Trading, for consumer matters
- Overseas Students Ombudsman, if you hold a student visa
- Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the national VET regulator
You will not be treated unfairly or disadvantaged for making a complaint or appeal.
