CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for the supervision of volunteers or other educators.

Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens. To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of at least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Skyline International College (SIC) follows the Community Services Training Package guidance for the entry requirements for this qualification. Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:

hold a CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent.

Academic Requirements:

Minimum completion of Australian Year 12 secondary school education equivalent or above.

English Language Requirements:

Academic IELTS 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each band or Upper Intermediate or EAP completion from an approved ELICOS/ESL centre Or Equivalent English Test (e.g. PTE, TOEFL).

An AQF qualification at Certificate III level or above in any discipline, delivered and assessed in English, will also satisfy both academic and English requirements.

Successfully complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital literacy assessment provided by SIC prior to finalization of enrolment.

Physical requirements:

Participants of this course should have a certain level of fitness as it involves tasks like lifting children, cleaning, mopping, and rearranging furniture. Participants should be prepared for these manual handling responsibilities that are integral to the job.

We provide access to your course materials through SIC eSpace online platform and course handouts. We have computers and student access at College, required software’s (eg, IT software’s and Microsoft suite) are installed in college computers for students to use.

The course materials fee for the course is $2,000.

The course is delivered across 40 weeks over 4 terms.
The delivery mode is blended delivery mode combining classroom and online delivery.

Classroom learning:
This blended mode means we conduct face-to-face delivery for 15 hours per week supplemented by structured eSpace online learning for 5 hours per week. Once you start the course, the trainers will explain how the classes will run 15 hours per week in the classroom. Classroom learning includes lectures supported by powerpoint plus visual topic content, with practice time and lots of group and oral work.

Structured eSpace online learning:
There is an extra 5 hours per week programmed outside class time when you revise and practice to reinforce classroom learning. The eSpace online learning is set up by unit and topics so it is easy for you to explore and then work through each unit of study.

Work Placement:
Work placement is in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia in each Term

Students will be required to complete 280 hours of work placement. Placement will be in an accredited child care facility at 20 hours per week basis ranging from 60 to 80 hours per Term. SIC has agreements with workplaces to provide suitable placements for students. However, students encouraged to look for their childcare centres to complete their practical.

Students are required to complete a range of tasks as part of the assessment requirements for each unit. Assessment methods may include:

Within the Projects there may be a number of tasks and methods used to gather evidence of competency such as:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT)
RPL and credit transfer (CT) can be applied for at the time of enrolment or during orientation and the original or certified copy must be provided. A fee is payable for assessing your RPL status or processing your credit transfer, please refer to our price lists in the handbook and website. If credit is granted, international students may have their course and visa shortened.

Pathway for other Community services Services Training Package Courses at SIC

Students who have completed the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or relevant units’ at SIC will be offered credit transfer. This will reduce the duration of study in the CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services Course Delivery Structure from 6 terms (direct entry) to 5 Term & 3 weeks at Skyline International College.

Upon successful completion of all the required units of this course, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification in CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Students who do not complete all required units may be eligible for a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care course.

Under mutual recognition, the Qualification or Statement of Attainment awarded by Skyline International College will be recognized by other RTOs Australia wide. Upon successful completion of this course, students may choose to study:

An undergraduate degree at universities or higher education providers that are willing to accept your credentials and experience (subject to higher education providers course entry requirements).

Skyline International College campus is fully equipped with required facilities including modern computer lab with internet access and required IT software’s, data projector and resources borrowing facility, printing and photocopying facility and a student common area.
